Dak’s Hips Don’t Lie

Posted on November 11, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

While the Dallas Cowboys may not have won their game last night against the Minnesota Vikings, their quarterback, Dak Prescott, won over non-Cowboys fans with his pregame routine. In case you missed it, Dak was on the field doing what we can only describe as an interesting, hip-thrusting routine. Without sound, it just looks a little weird, but thankfully whoever runs the SNF on NBC Twitter account called for fans to answer the question we all started to wonder: what song was he listening to? Naturally, the fans responded in the best way and provided us with endless entertainment last night.

We personally would like to see the video of Dak set to “Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar, “Back It Up” by our very own Team Owner and Fan Captain, Prince Royce, or just in time for the holidays, the Daryl Hall and John Oates cover of “Jingle Bell Rock.” What about you fans, what song do you think will work best for Dak? And how long will it be before his receiving core tease him by executing these moves in the endzone after a touchdown?

FAN Take: BYOB – Build Your Own Ballpark

Posted on November 6, 2019

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

We had a chance to read SB Nation’s feature on what the American ballpark of the future should look like, and we’re obsessed. The author, Scott Hines, a sports fanatic and architect, challenged new stadiums to include their local community in their plans, make the stadium blend into its existing surroundings, and to make it a true destination. Hines called for all the most important factors we care about to be considered… even though we may not have realized how important those were until reading the article. Here’s to breaking the mold on your standard stadium design to make something truly epic for multiple generations to enjoy!

We want to know from the fans, are these radical ideas amazing? Or do you think the author is reaching with his vision for what the next ballparks should look like? Maybe you fall somewhere in the middle of this spectrum. The one thing we think all the fans will agree on is that they want to be involved in the process – even if it’s a customary community meeting after identifying ballpark sites. If cities do that for shopping centers and parks, why not for something that is meant to be a fan destination?

NFL Week Nine Round Up – The Fans Are ‘Upset’

Posted on November 5, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

What a week for football! Not only did the Miami Dolphins finally win their first game of the season, the New England Patriots were handed their first loss. Based on how the fans voted, there were some serious upsets – almost nobody thought the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers were capable of pulling out the W this week (and we agreed). After being split on two separate games, the fans ended up going 6-6-2, bringing their season record to 80-45-10. Now for a breakdown of each pick – bold indicates the winner of the game, italics indicate who the fans selected.

  • San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals
  • Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles – looks like the fans just couldn’t pick one team in this match up.
  • Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins
  • Washington Redskins vs. Buffalo Bills
  • Tennessee Titans vs. Carolina Panthers
  • Detroit Lions vs. Oakland Raiders
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Seattle Seahawks
  • Green Bay Packers vs. Los Angeles Chargers
  • Cleveland Browns vs. Denver Broncos
  • New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens – the fans were split!
  • Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

Don’t forget, fans! NFL Week 10 picks open up TOMORROW on Twitter! And now, here are some of our favorite moments from Week 9:

  • Following (yet another) Brown’s loss this week, Twitter was roasting Baker Mayfield for his appearance. This normally isn’t the kind of thing we would feature as a highlight, but some of these comparisons were too funny not to share.

  • We’ve said it (more than) once and we’ll say it again: kicking does not belong in football. Don’t @ us.
  • We’re not saying the Chargers made a mistake moving to LA… but we do find it interesting that on Sunday the stadium was looking more like Lambeau Field and less like the Dignity Health Sports Park.
  • If you missed MNF this week, you missed a guest appearance on the field by a black cat. While the footage is great, The Checkdown’s in-depth feature of his story is much more impressive.
  • Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup had us feeling thankful, for the first time in a long time, for the pylon cameras when they caught his somersaulting TD.

The Patriots Have Fallen

Posted on November 4, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

The time has finally come – the New England Patriots are no longer undefeated! Yesterday, Tom Brady and his team lost to the underrated Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. The 37-20 loss for the Patriots will likely leave their defense with nightmares for a week after they allowed themselves to be blown out at home. Who knows, maybe this reality check will serve up some humble pie for the 6-time Super Bowl Champions – and push the Ravens to taking down the only remaining undefeated team in the league: the San Francisco 49ers.

What does that mean for the rest of the season? Well, for starters – ANYTHING Is possible. Sure, the Patriots typically have the easiest schedule every year considering how awful their division is, but if the Super Bowl favorites can lose to the Ravens the same week that the Miami Dolphins finally pull out a win, the Vince Lombardi Trophy could go to anyone. Well, anyone but the Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns. We just hope the fans remember this during the inaugural season of the FCFL. Every team will have solid talent on their rosters, so everything comes down to them. Their play calling abilities will be what makes or break their team’s season. So, no matter how good one team may seem, the fans can change everything with their voting power. What else did you expect from the Fan Controlled Football League?

FAN Take: Happy Birthday, You’re Benched

Posted on October 30, 2019

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

The Cincinnati Bengals have had a rough first half of the NFL Regular Season, to say the least. They’ve come so close to winning games against the Seattle Seahawks (-1), Buffalo Bills (-4), Arizona Cardinals (-3), and Baltimore Ravens (-6) – but lost every single time. Realistically, we don’t see them pulling out a win until their games against the New York Jets (Week 13), Cleveland Browns (Weeks 14 & 17), or Miami Dolphins (Week 16). But, that all could change now that they have a new starting QB: rookie, Ryan Finley. You might be wondering, what happened to Andy Dalton? He didn’t fall victim to the NFL trade deadlines yesterday, but he was benched. On his birthday. Yes, really. What we really want to know is if the Bengals delivered the news to the quarterback on his birthday cake – could you imagine?!

While we feel for Dalton being benched on what should be a happy day for him, at the end of the day, it’s just business. With an 0-8 start, nobody should be shocked by the Bengals decision. Sure, the timing wasn’t ideal, especially since the Bengals have a bye this week, but they needed to get Finley up to speed and ready to go for their second game against the Ravens in Week 10. Naturally, we’re now wondering if the fans would be as ruthless if they were in charge. Fans, would you show no mercy with benching a player on their birthday? Maybe even sending him back to the practice squad? Or what about firing a coach? Are birthdays fair game as long as they aren’t a monumental one, like 50, for example? Or, like the Bengals, do you think it’s business as usual – no matter whose birthday it is?

NFL Week Eight Round Up – Fans Are Riding High

Posted on October 29, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

We’re officially at the halfway mark of the NFL Regular Season and if the fans’ ability to accurately pick games is any indicator of how they will do in the inaugural season of the Fan Controlled Football League, we’ve got nothing to worry about! Once again, the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers came out on top, and the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins are keeping their losing streak alive. Naturally, the fans called all four teams’ games correctly. Due to a split decision on the Oakland Raiders-Houston Texans game this week, the fans ended up going 12-2-1, bringing their season record to 74-39-8. Now for a breakdown of each pick – bold indicates the winner of the game, italics indicate who the fans selected.

  • Washington Redskins vs. Minnesota Vikings
  • Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons
  • Los Angeles Chargers vs. Chicago Bears
  • New York Giants vs. Detroit Lions
  • New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Cincinnati Bengals vs. Los Angeles Rams
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Tennessee Titans
  • Philadelphia Eagles vs. Buffalo Bills
  • Denver Broncos vs. Indianapolis Colts
  • Arizona Cardinals vs. New Orleans Saints
  • Carolina Panthers vs. San Francisco 49ers
  • Oakland Raiders vs. Houston Texans *tie, we guess the fans just couldn’t pick
  • Cleveland Browns vs. New England Patriots
  • Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Don’t forget, fans! NFL Week 9 picks open up TOMORROW on Twitter! And now, here are some of our favorite moments from Week 8:

  • Nick Bosa continues to strain his back by carrying the 49ers. We hope for the fans sake that he stays healthy for the remainder of the season.
  • The Jaguars achieved Troll Level 1000 when responding to Jets QB Sam Darnold’s statement on ‘seeing ghosts’ in their loss to the Patriots the week before. It should also be noted that prior to the game, a plane flew over the stadium with a banner that read ‘Gardner Minshew ain’t afraid of no ghosts.’

  • This Tennessee Titans cheerleader is outperforming the entire receiving core from the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns combined.
  • Aaron Rodgers reminded everyone why he’s a Super Bowl MVP with this pass. Don’t lie, you all held your breath during this play too.
  • Saquon Barkley went full BEASTMODE on the field, tossing these guys out of his way. Marshawn, we think it’s time you sign some new athletes to your brand.
