NFL’s 100th Season Kick Off Falls Flat

Well, that certainly wasn’t the game we were expecting from the NFL’s 100th season. Typically, the first game of the regular season features the Super Bowl Champions, which in this case, would have been the New England Patriots. But this year, the NFL decided to switch it up and feature the oldest rivalry they had, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Which is kind of fitting, because this is also the 100th season for both teams. The end result was lackluster to say the least. Between the Packers have the fewest yards in the first quarter since 1979 (-12 total, wow) and the Bears finding themselves in a 3rd and 40 situation, we wanted more from the game with a final score of 10-3.

Were the fans just excited to have regular season football back? Definitely, at least for a little while. But did they love the first game? Not so much. People were roasting the game on Twitter, and USA Today‘s Andy Nesbitt weren’t having it. As soon as the first flag was thrown in the first quarter, even we found ourselves thinking we could have gone without football a little longer. One thing is certain, in the FCFL we will do everything we can to make sure these match-ups are as entertaining as possible! Until our season has it’s ‘first snap,’ we’ll just hope for better quality of games this NFL season. At least the showdown between the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders on Monday night should be entertaining given all the drama Antonio Brown has caused over the last few weeks!
