All-Star Aces

Yesterday we tuned in to watch the #StayAtHomeSlam, a Mario Tennis tournament featuring some of the biggest names in tennis, and a few well-known celebrities. The tournament was put together by IMG Tennis, and gave each of the stars $25,000 to donate to the charity of their choice, with the winner getting an additional $1M to donate. We saw tennis phenoms like Naomi Osaka, Serena and Venus Williams, and Maria Sharapova fall by the wayside, and in the end it was Taylor Fritz and Addison Rae (TikTok personality) defeating Kei Nishikori and Steve Aoki (DJ) in the final. Our favorite part of the tournament? John McEnroe showed up to commentate! Who knew we’d enjoy the ‘bad boy of tennis’ so much in this role?!

Do we think the fans want to see their FCFL players paired up with some of their favorite celebrities for a gaming tournament? Sure. Do we think they’d prefer to be the ones paired up with those players? Hell yeah! While we get the feeling that the fans first choice for a game wouldn’t be Mario Aces (no shade), we think they’d be up for just about anything. Maybe even an entire tournament where each round is a different game. One thing’s for sure – we know the fans would want a say in who they’re paired up with! After all, this is the Fan Controlled Football League, the only place where the fans call the shots!

FAN Take: Is Basketball Worth More Than Football?

Posted on July 3, 2019

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

As if you didn’t already know, NBA Free Agency has already proven to be WILD. Aside from the world still waiting to hear on where Kawhi Leonard will be playing next season, guys like Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson and Tobias Harris are bringing in serious money for their next 3-5 years of playing. With all these contracts coming in above the $100M mark, we can’t help but notice that the top NFL players are making just under half of that, at the very most. It’s not surprising that in response to all these new contracts, Houston Texans wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, posed this question: Do NFL players deserve top NBA players contracts?

Yes, technically, the guys in the NBA have more games to play each season, but it can be easily argued that football players put their bodies through so much more. On that point alone, it makes sense that top NFL players – not just the quarterbacks – should be getting compensated at a higher level. Considering that the Brooklyn Nets just dedicated a combined $305M for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, it’s reasonable to think that someone like Michael Thomas (New Orleans Saints), Davante Adams (Green Bay Packers), or Zach Ertz (Philadelphia Eagles) should be able to get PAID when renegotiating their contracts. But that’s just our opinion fans, what do you think? Do you think that football players deserve just as much, if not more, than some of these top NBA players? Or do you think comparing athletes from the two sports is like comparing apples to oranges? What about certain positions having maximum earning amounts? Let us know what you think is fair!

Power To The Fans!
