Kinda Funny Is Out Here Making Deals

Posted on July 9, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

Over the holiday weekend while we were more focused on *not* blowing off our fingers with fireworks, FCFL Team Owner | Fan Captains Greg Miller and Kinda Funny were busy making their first team personnel decision: signing their water boy. As you can see from the photo below, the contract was executed in the most official way possible.

While the position of water boy isn’t fan controlled like the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, it could be the most crucial (come on, did you see The Waterboy?!). Considering this was an ‘internal hire’ on Kinda Funny’s part, we’re wondering who the fans would want to see take over that position for some of the other teams. We think for guys like Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch, the fans would want to see some of their current and former teammates – could you imagine Russell Wilson running around tossing out water bottles? For Prince Royce, we think the fans might like to see someone he’s collaborated with in the past, or maybe his Lip Sync Battle foe, Lele Pons? Let us know who you want to see slinging those water bottles!

FCFL Takes On Lip Sync Battle

Posted on June 28, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

You read that right, fans! FCFL Team Owner | Fan Captain Prince Royce appeared on last night’s episode of Lip Sync Battle to face off against Lele Pons. h pulled out a rendition of “Versace on the Floor” by Bruno Mars to start off with, before moving on to a show-stopping version of “Fireball” by Pitbull. We think we can speak for everyone that saw his performance when we say that Prince Royce makes a better Pitbull than Mr. 305 himself. It was a no brainer for the fans to make the decision, crowning Prince Royce Lip Sync Battle champion. That’s right, we’ve got a champion on our hands before the season even starts. Let’s just hope that he wears his belt proudly to each game!

We want to hear from the fans, if we set up a Lip Sync Battle-type competition between all the Team Owners | Fan Captains that have been named, who do you think would take home the title of champion? Sure Bobby Bones has some moves after competing on Dancing with the Stars and sings in his band, but we get the feeling that Greg Miller from Kinda Funny might have some hidden talents to showcase on stage. Maybe Richard Sherman is secretly the best dancer and is just waiting for a platform to wow us with his skills. But at the end of the day, if we were the fans, we’d keep our money on Prince Royce after that performance!

FCFL Team Owner Preps For Fortnite Pro-Am

Posted on June 14, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

It’s that time of the year again and the Fornite Pro-Am is back! This year we are excited to see FCFL Team Owner | Fan Captain Marshawn Lynch throw his hat into the ring for the tournament this weekend! Marshawn will be teaming up with Ninja, arguably the most popular streamer out there, especially for Fortnite. Marshawn recently shared a clip of him and Ninja getting prepared for the tournament, and frankly, we would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that. Other notable athletes and celebrities you’ll see in this year’s tournament include JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kenneth Faried, Jay Mewes, Hannibal Buress, Blake Martinez, and Brendon Urie. For the full list of partners and how to watch the tournament on Twitch, click here.

We think the fans would love to see some of their players and Team Owners | Fan Captains participate in next year’s tournament, but what about having an FCFL-wide version? It wouldn’t have to be Fortnite, but any game the fans and players are passionate about. We think the fans would jump at the opportunity to stream with the people they spend all season making decisions for. As for the Fortnite Pro-Am, we hope the fans will join us in wishing Marshawn the best of luck!

FAN Take: Talk About A Tough Break

Posted on May 1, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

This morning it was announced Oakland Raiders veteran RB Isaiah Crowell suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a workout with the team yesterday, making his presence on the field this season essentially non-existent. This injury wipes out most of the Raiders’ backfield depth chart and give Josh Jacobs a huge workload in his rookie season. According to reports, it sounds like they will try to fill the void by bringing back Doug Martin, who filled in for Marshawn Lynch last year. There’s only one thing we know for sure: we’d hate to be their fans this season.

Crowell ran for 685 yards and 6 touchdowns last season for the New York Jets

When it comes to off-season workouts, do you want to see your players grinding constantly? Or do you want to see them wait until they’re in official training camps with the entire team? More importantly, if your players get injured before the season even starts, are you going to be able to put faith in your back-ups? Or in a situation like this, will you put more pressure on receivers instead of relying on back-up running backs? Let us know!

You Can’t Believe Everything You Read On the Internet

It’s April 1st, which can only mean one thing: if you are even the slightest bit gullible. you should absolutely, 100%, avoid the internet today. Even more so if you are a person who lives for sports. Your usual stomping grounds like Instagram and Twitter are no longer safe.

Athletes and teams all over the country will likely be trying to up their game from previous years – especially the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Coyotes, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Anthony Davis. They’ve already proven that they are dirty liars and cannot be trusted on April Fools’ Day.

You know who you can trust though? The Chicago Bears. Just this morning they unveiled plans for their new historic jersey, just in time for a historic year. For this year, and this year only, the Bears will be supporting the NFL’s 100th season by adding a ‘1’ to the front of every player’s jersey. Stars like Khalil Mack and Mike Davis are getting pretty hyped up for their new jerseys!

And on that note, we’d like to announce that the FCFL has actually signed NFL Free Agent and FCFL Team Owner | Fan Captain Marshawn Lynch, to Richard Sherman’s team. Rumor has it, he will be wearing #224, because we’re twice as good as the Chicago Bears and the NFL’s 100th season.

#Gotcha!

We know a lot of you out there were watching based on the feedback we were getting in our DMs, but we have a feeling the fans were left wanting something more. We think if the fans were the ones running this, they’d come up with new drills to test the skills of these guys. Maybe some of you would want to run the interviews with better questions than what we heard over the weekend. Either way, we know that by putting the fans in charge, combines will never be the same again.

Case Keenum Heading to Washington

Published on March 7, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

Did everyone else feel their phones and Apple Watches vibrate with an ESPN notification saying that Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum was being traded away? And to the Redskins? With the Broncos acquiring Joe Flacco (and shocking Keenum in the process), it wasn’t surprising to see Keenum become a trade option. The best part of all this? Deadspin calling it like they saw it with this headline: “Case Keenum Banished to Life as a Washington Quarterback.” We felt that.

And now that Keenum will be suiting up with the Washington Redskins, he has one big challenge ahead of him – beating out Colt McCoy for the starting spot. The real question is, who would the HTTR-shouting fans prefer to see on the field in the 2019 season?

Based on the amount of trash talking that has already transpired between Team Owners and Fan Captains Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman, Prince Royce and Chad Johnson, we get the feeling that they’re going to be taking this league VERY seriously. We can’t wait to watch them have their quarterbacks battle it out for the starting spot for the fans’ entertainment!

FAN Take – Gaming: Connecting Athletes and Fans

By Annalece Montgomery

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

We’ve talked about well-known NFL players that have voiced their love for gaming, whether it’s PUBG, Fortnite, or any other game – but NBA players like Kenneth Faried are into it too! So much so that it was announced last week that the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) had partnered up with ReadyUp.  Together they will launch an “esports smart calendar that will act as the comprehensive source to find esports matches, tournaments, and livestreams that includes video game fan experiences and media events with NBA Players.” The players will be filling in the calendar with their own game livestreaming events so that fans are able to either watch or join in and play.

With 85% of NBA players playing video games, what do you think the percentage is like in the MLB, NHL, MLS, and NFL? How pumped would the fans be to see this kind of calendar put together across other sports as well? You could be watching Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) one day and Marshawn Lynch (Oakland Raiders) the next? Would you rather watch these athletes stream or get in on the action? If you’re just spectating, would you team up with some of your friends to watch your favorite athletes? Would you want to see a calendar like the one NBPA and ReadyUp are making for FCFL athletes? Maybe even some of the coaches, depending on how savvy they really are? We want to know how important it is to you, the fans, to watch your favorite athletes get their game on!
