The Magic of Minshew

Posted on September 26, 2019

We’ve made it three weeks into the football season without taking time to talk about the most entertaining player in the NFL – Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew. You may have heard about the way he does his warm-up stretches in only his jock strap, how he tried to break his own hand for a medical red-shirt, or how he’s giving hope to football fans in Florida that one of the state’s three teams still stand a shot (sorry, Miami and Tampa Bay). We learned a lot more about Nick Foles’ replacement and the Washington State alum through an interview SB Nation did with Minshew’s father, including how his competitiveness almost resulted in his teammates’ fathers being beaten up.

If we asked the fans whether or not they want QBs like Gardner Minshew in the FCFL, we think we’d get a resounding “Hell Yes!” We can’t blame them – we think Minshew is just the breath of fresh air a brand new football league needs. Before the first-ever, fan-run draft, we’ll be conducting Q&A sessions with all your draft options, but if there are any specific questions you want to ask these athletes, let us know. Especially if you want to know whether or not they can cut their own jorts or grow a mean mustache.

Fan Take: It’s Not You, It’s Our Salary Cap

Posted on March 13, 2019

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

NFL Free Agency is off to an INSANE start. So far we’ve seen Nick Foles to the Jaguars, Le’Veon Bell to the Jets, Mark Ingram to the Ravens, and Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns – and we’re only 48 hours in. Some of these decisions are bringing in strong reactions from fans and athletes alike, and we’re practically sitting on the edge of our seats waiting to see what happens next.

It’s clear that a driving force behind these decisions is each team’s salary cap. It seems like just about every year, a new quarterback gets to hold the title of highest paid in the league, until someone comes along with a better agent to one-up them and get a better deal. With the cost of these contracts on the rise, the amount of cap space dwindles more and more for every other position. How can we be so sure about this? There’s a reason that every time a new deal is signed, guys like Adam Schefter and Dan Graziano are following up with the changes in a team’s salary cap.

Yesterday we mentioned that New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas shared that he didn’t want to see teammate RB Mark Ingram leave. And now, it looks like nobody has publicly welcomed Ingram’s replacement, Latavius Murray, to the team. So fans, in a situation like this, what will you expect from your players? Will you expect them to show respect to the new guy on the team, even if they don’t like the decisions you, the front office, made to get him there? Do you expect your team to give a tearful farewell to their departing teammate before welcoming in a new one? You’re the ones calling the shots for your team, so let us know what your expectations are!
