FCFL fans, we
know you’ve been excitedly awaiting news of who’s joining Richard Sherman and
Marshawn Lynch as Fan Captains. Well, we’ve got some BIG news for you: as of
today, multi-platinum award-winning Latin superstar Prince Royce has joined the
league as a team owner and Fan Captain.
Royce is the
first team owner announced that is not from the sports world. He’s a FAN just
like the rest of us! When asked about why he became an owner in the FCFL,
Prince Royce said “I’m a football fan and have always dreamt of owning a sports
team – the fact that the FCFL combines sports with tech and gaming makes it the
perfect league for me. I love everything about it, and it’s awesome that fans
can really participate and be part of the game in a way they have never
experienced before.”
All eight
FCFL teams will be based in a single location – so instead of rooting for their
hometown franchise, FCFL fans will join a team led by their favorite team
owner. Royce, Lynch and Sherman – and the other five team owners who will be
announced in the coming weeks – will work alongside their squad’s fans to
create the brand, voice and personality of their respective teams, as well as
helping their fans through key decisions like hiring (and firing) coaches,
drafting players, and calling the plays in real-time.
FCFL
Co-Founder and CEO, Sohrob Farudi, talked to Prince Royce’s fit with the FCFL,
“Prince Royce is exactly the type of owner we are looking for in the FCFL. He
is not only a mega star with a hugely engaged digital fan base, he’s also a
passionate football fan and gamer. I’m excited to see how he and his fans shape
his franchise over the coming months.”
For those of
you who don’t know Prince Royce, what’s wrong with you? Ok, well, probably
nothing, so here’s a little bit more about him:
In the past
8 years, multi-platinum award-winning, singer/songwriter Prince Royce has
become a bona fide Latin superstar, scoring 16 #1 radio hits, 22
Latin Billboard Awards, 19 Premio lo Nuestro Awards, 19 Premios Juventud
Awards, 6 Latin AMAs, and 12 Latin GRAMMY nominations.
Royce has a
massive fan base with over 55 million followers on social media and he has
sold out many of the most prestigious venues in Latin America and the
United States.
Some of
his collaborations include: Shakira, Chris Brown, Jennifer Lopez, Selena
Gomez, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Thalia, Maná, Daddy Yankee, Becky G, Ludacris, J
Balvin, Bad Bunny, Farruko, and Maluma, among others. Prince Royce has
also co-starred as Peter in the Fox Live musical broadcast of “The
Passion” in 2016 and was part of the cast of Hulu’s hit series, “East Los High.”
August 9,
2018 was proclaimed “Prince Royce Day” in New York by Mayor Bill de
Blasio, in recognition of his contributions to society and for being a role
model to youth in his home town. He has been induced into the
Bronx Hall of Fame with a street named after him, and run the New York
City Marathon to raise funds and awareness on education in public schools and
kidney disease.
