The Magic of Minshew

Posted on September 26, 2019

By Annalece Anhalt-Slaughter

We’ve made it three weeks into the football season without taking time to talk about the most entertaining player in the NFL – Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew. You may have heard about the way he does his warm-up stretches in only his jock strap, how he tried to break his own hand for a medical red-shirt, or how he’s giving hope to football fans in Florida that one of the state’s three teams still stand a shot (sorry, Miami and Tampa Bay). We learned a lot more about Nick Foles’ replacement and the Washington State alum through an interview SB Nation did with Minshew’s father, including how his competitiveness almost resulted in his teammates’ fathers being beaten up.

If we asked the fans whether or not they want QBs like Gardner Minshew in the FCFL, we think we’d get a resounding “Hell Yes!” We can’t blame them – we think Minshew is just the breath of fresh air a brand new football league needs. Before the first-ever, fan-run draft, we’ll be conducting Q&A sessions with all your draft options, but if there are any specific questions you want to ask these athletes, let us know. Especially if you want to know whether or not they can cut their own jorts or grow a mean mustache.

Hard Knocks: CFB Edition

It’s finally happening! College football is getting the Hard Knocks treatment from HBO. The network announced it will be following four college football teams on a limited series called 24/7 COLLEGE FOOTBALL. We think the all-caps style is a little much, but you do you, HBO. The show, set to debut October 2, will follow Florida, Penn State, Arizona State and Washington State, and run for four episodes. What can fans expect from the limited series?

For many years, we have been enamored with the storylines and unrivaled traditions of college football, and we’re excited for the opportunity to expand the 24/7 franchise into the realm of college sports. Viewers will feel the tremendous electricity of some of the best atmospheres in the country, and see the meticulous preparation and challenges facing these programs in the build-up to gameday and during the game action. We are excited for the challenge of delivering a four-part series of four different college programs over a four-week period with the production values and storytelling associated with our 24/7 franchise.

We live in a time where reality tv makes up a majority of the programming we see on network television, so it was about time a show came out that focused on college football. We previously asked the fans how they felt about getting to see the same kind of behind-the-scenes footage with the FCFL teams, and now we’re more convinced than ever this needs to happen. Would you tune in? Let us know!
